Which format
should you choose for listening to music on your computer?
The choice of formats to choose from is large. The two formats we use are RealAudio and MP3. RealAudio produces small files that are fast to download but sound like an AM radio on a bad day. DNA Music and most Ambient Music is based around sound quality, so listening in RealAudio almost defeats the purpose. If you are using a slow internet connection, especially a connection by telephone, or if you are listening through cheap speakers inside your computer, then you will probably want to download the music as RealAudio clips. If you do not already have a RealAudio player, you can get one here. MP3 files are relatively large, but people claim that it is CD quality. If you have a fast ISDN line, this is the format for you. By and large, it is excellent sound and is a real revolution for the internet. Even so, with some sounds MP3 is not CD quality (which is why there is no mp3 version of the "DNA" track). There are a variety of options for using mp3 formats, the downloads often varying based on your computer or your browser.

RealAudio Clips
RealAudio is supposed to sound like an AM radio, but it downloads quickly. CD quality clips of the music in MP3 format which are slow to download (over than 300 KB) are also available.

Professor of Love: Spiraling guitar over a jazzy back leads to a learning experience you will never forget. I Have a Dream: Born out of the words of Martin Luther King Jr., this piece leads to another world of primitive memories and wild animals. DNA: Oboe and Eastern keys characterise the fast but soothing dance to the source of all life. Trouble Is His Name: A slow, hot background, the feel of a New York summer's night, and low Tom Waits-style vocals are mixed to say what kind of man a girl can expect to find here.

MP3 Help

Real Player now can play MP3's. The minimal download of their free G2 player (with no extras or cost) works fine for just downloading music.

WinAmp make a superb MP3 player, complete with graphic equaliser. It is shareware, so you are expected to pay for it if you keep it.

Microsoft also provide a windows media player which can handle MP3's. The released version -- as opposed to the beta version -- is probably the way to go (knowing Microsoft's attention to detail in design).
